Pool Permit, Day 14

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

Still no resolution from the City –
It’s hard enough to find work in this economy, does the County Health Department really need to make things this difficult???

Pool Permit, Day 12

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

Meeting today at the residence with the L.A. County Sewer District permit guy to look around.
Apparently if you own a home with a septic tank, you are NOW required to have enough room on your property to install a completely redundant NEW tank AND leechfield.
Hopefully he finds enough area on the one acre property to allocate for a new 15′x40′ leechfield….
No word back yet from the Department of Urban Forestry despite daily messages – He must really be behind because his greeting states that he will be out of the office from May 11 – May 12.
Tax money HARD at work.

Pool Permit, Day 11

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

Still no word from the “Department of Urban Forestry” (I still can’t get over how ridiculous that sounds).
Looks like the Oak Trees in Placerita Canyon are in mortal danger from this proposed hole in the ground.

In other news our project in the City of L.A. is very close to receiving it’s final 3 inspections – All it took was a bunch of extra money and 25 inspections.

Building Departments

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

I could not be more frustrated with {insert City name} building department – Am I out of my mind or should service actually be getting better when the demand slows down??

I challenge anyone who reads this to attempt to get a building permit for ANYTHING right now and forward me the story of your experience.

I am currently on day 10 of getting a permit in the City of (insert name). Simple swimming pool and spa in Placerita Canyon – has no oak trees on the actual property and has a septic tank instead of a connection to City sewer line. (more…)

Despite the best efforts of the City of L.A.

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

We received “final inspection” approval from the Health Department today – required for all commercial swimming pools prior to opening to the public.
In other news, the City of L.A. wants more permits and more money for a job that has been plan checked, inspected and completed (do you think it has something to do with the special $400 “investigation” fee they charge??). On top of the permit costs, my pockets are now $800 lighter thanks to the City – Tony Soprano eat your heart out.

And the final product…

At long last…

Monday, April 27th, 2009

Finally – plaster in the BG pool. No thanks to the City of L.A. the pool is done and filled with water, just awaiting a final health inspection.
Now if they would only sign off for us to complete the fireplace the project will be complete. I think the City of L.A. should look into “combo” permits, here’s how your hard earned government dollars are being spent – for this project, remodeling a pool, constructing a block wall and building a fireplace requires the following inspectors (each with their own inspection schedules): (more…)

New L.A. City Water Rationing Rules Adopted…

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

I blogged a while back about the impending water crisis in SoCal and the possibility of water rationing and I believe the wait is over. Water rationing is here.
The City of L.A. just passed a rationing ordinance that will double the cost of water and limit the days that you can water your yard. Check the article here (Original Article).
The LADWP was also kind enough to provide a snitch hotline so you can finally get even with the neighbor that you hate – check here (Water Nazis) for the “mandatory conservation” enforcement hotline…

One of the reasons I love construction would be the random things that you see on a daily basis.
